The Korean Central News Agency reported on the 22nd that the Workers’ Party of Korea’s delegation left Pyongyang on the 21st to visit China, Vietnam, and Laos.
According to the report, the delegation, led by Kim Song Nam, the director of the party’s international affairs, arrived in Beijing, their first stop, on the 21st. They were received by Liu Jianchao, minister of the party’s international liaison department, and North Korea’s ambassador to China, Ri Ryong Nam.
On the same day, the news agency added that Kim Jong Un sent a flower basket to the General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, Thongloun Sisoulith, who is also the President of Laos, in commemoration of the party’s 69th anniversary of founding.

This move appears to strengthen traditional friendly relations with socialist countries.
As this year’s ASEAN chair, Laos is preparing for the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), the only multilateral security forum in the region in which North Korea participates.
