Kim Jong Un, the General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of North Korea, emphasized war readiness ahead of North Korea’s biggest holiday, the Day of the Sun (Kim Il Sung’s birthday) on the 15th, and ordered strengthening enemy readiness.

According to the Rodong Sinmun on the 11th, Kim Jong Un stated during his on-site guidance at the Kim Jong Il Military University, a North Korean military education institution, on the previous day (10th) that “We must be more firmly and perfectly prepared for a war that we must not just face, but win.”

General Secretary Kim said, “If the enemy chooses a military confrontation with us, we will annihilate them by mobilizing all means at our disposal without hesitation,” and added, “The university should strive for greater achievements in education to fill the army with commanders who can overwhelm the enemy at all levels of the army with mental and moral superiority in combat and tactical superiority.”

He then emphasized the importance of military talent cultivation, stating, “Our party, which is aiming for and strongly promoting the construction of the world’s strongest military, places great importance on the military talent cultivation project. The power of the revolutionary army depends on the military skills of the commanders, and the education level of the military schools determines their ideological character and military qualities.”

“The university should thoroughly arm the students with the revolutionary ideology of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the military strategic line of Juche, and set a goal to modernize all processes and opportunities of the education project, and innovate the education structure and content scientifically to cultivate more competent military officers with high integrated operational capability and practical command ability.” he further added.

General Secretary Kim also inspected the dormitory and dining hall, instructing the party to organize a construction modernization project to provide a better education environment and living conditions. The on-site photos showed meat, lettuce, green onions, kimchi, apples, and pears set on the table.

Kim Jong Il Military University, which first appeared at the military parade marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party in October 2020, is presumed to be an educational facility that trains high-ranking military officers. However, the article emphasized, “The Military University, which has been tasked with a historic mission since March 7, 1973, has faithfully upheld the military education revolutionary policy of the Workers’ Party of Korea for over 50 years and has nurtured numerous core military commanders of our army,” suggesting that it has existed since the past.

Accompanying Kim Jong Un’s visit to Kim Jong Il Military University were Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party Pak Jong Chon, Minister of the People’s Armed Forces of North Korea Kang Sun Nam, Chief of the General Staff of the People’s Army Ri Yong Gil, and Senior Advisor to the Ministry of National Defense Hwang Byung Seo, among other military officers. This is the first time Hwang Byung Seo, who has previously served as the Director of the General Political Bureau of the Army, has been introduced with the title of Senior Advisor to the Ministry of National Defense.
