On the 23rd, North Korean authorities publicly stated for the first time that they conducted a nuclear counterattack simulation tactical training under the leadership of Kim Jong Un using a super-large multiple rocket launcher, mentioning the nuclear trigger system.

North Korea had conducted a nuclear counterattack simulation tactical training in March last year, but presumably, it was before the nuclear trigger system was established.

The Korean Central News Agency announced, “The training was conducted within the national nuclear weapons management system nuclear trigger on the previous day (22nd). This was a clear warning signal to the enemies.”

According to the media, the training took into account the ongoing Korea Flying Training (KFT) conducted by South Korea and the United States and the joint aerial penetration training conducted on the 18th. The training was conducted in the order of actual training for procedure and process mastery, firing of a super-large multiple rocket launcher loaded with nuclear counterattack command system operation practice, and process execution with an nuclear counterattack mission.

Kim praised the high accuracy of the super-large multiple rocket launcher, saying, “It is as if I have seen a sniper rifle shooting,” and “Our style of the world’s best tactical nuclear attack methods is being strictly prepared to be faithfully mobilized for their strategic mission in a prompt and thorough counterattack posture, boasting formidable power.

The agency conveyed that he was satisfied, saying, “The training was successfully conducted, and the Central Party’s plan for nuclear force construction to expand and diversify the operational space of tactical nuclear attacks was accurately realized.”

He then stated that “the power and utility of our nuclear combat force, which has been introduced to the super-large multiple rocket launcher, have been incomparably increased,” repeatedly suggesting the possibility of loading tactical nuclear warheads.

Earlier, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that North Korea had fired several rounds of what was evaluated as a super-large multiple rocket launcher towards the East Sea from the Pyeongyang area the previous afternoon.
