Police have applied for an arrest warrant for a man in his 50s who brutally murdered a YouTuber with a weapon during a live broadcast in broad daylight in front of a courthouse.

Yonhap News

On the 10th, Yeonje Police Station in Busan announced that they had requested a warrant for a man in his 50s, on suspicion of murder.

The warrant hearing for the suspect is scheduled for the afternoon of May 11th at the Busan District Court.

The suspect is accused of stabbing the victim, a YouTuber in his 50s, with a weapon around 9:52 AM on May 9th at a crossroads in front of the Busan Court Complex while the victim was conducting a live YouTube broadcast, and then fleeing the scene.

According to the police investigation, the suspect and victim had been engaging in indiscriminate mudslinging on YouTube and had filed multiple complaints and accusations against each other.

On the day of the incident, both were scheduled to appear in court for an assault trial, with one as the defendant and the other as the victim.

The victim, who lived in Gyeonggi Province, was attacked by the suspect, who had been hiding in a nearby parking lot, while live streaming on YouTube near the courthouse before entering the trial.

After the attack, the suspect fled using a vehicle but was captured by the police in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, about an hour and a half later, around 11:35 a.m.

Even moments before his arrest, the suspect posted a message on his YouTube channel saying, “This is my last goodbye. I’ve been caught in Gyeongju. I’m a bit sad I didn’t get to see the sea. Thank you all for everything.”

The victim, who was stabbed, was taken to a nearby hospital in a state of cardiac arrest and received CPR, but he died about an hour later.

The police believe the suspect premeditated the murder, noting that he had prepared the weapon in advance. It is also reported that the victim, feeling threatened, was carrying a weapon at the time.
