People continue to report debris from balloons, believed to have been launched from North Korea for distributing propaganda leaflets, to 112, South Korea’s emergency hotline.
According to relevant authorities on the 29th, a report was made to the police at around 10:17 PM on the 28th that debris from a balloon was found at a restaurant near Soyo Mountain Station in Dongducheon City, Gyeonggi Province.
It was reported that a plastic bag containing an object presumed to be feces was also attached to the debris of the balloon. The military authorities are analyzing the substance.
By the morning of the 29th, there were continuous reports on the found debris of balloons in areas such as Gwangtan-myeon, Paju City, Gyeonggi Province. However, it is reported that no propaganda leaflets have been found so far.
Many balloons are floating near the North Korean border, with some popping and falling to the ground. In response, on the afternoon of the 28th, Gyeonggi Province issued an emergency disaster text message titled “Air Raid Preliminary Warning.”
As of 6:30 AM on the 29th, the Gyeonggi Northern Police Agency 112 Situation Room received 110 reports of sightings of balloons and inquiries related to disaster text messages.
