North Korean Balloons Full of Trash Cause Major Airport Delays

Yonhap News

On the morning of the 26th, operations at Incheon International Airport were disrupted due to the aftermath of North Korea’s second consecutive day of releasing trash balloons toward its southern counterpart.

According to Incheon International Airport, the takeoff and landing of domestic and international flights were either halted or delayed for approximately three hours.

Incheon Airport explained that they controlled takeoffs and landings due to the possibility of foreign objects getting sucked into the engines of the planes. As of 7 AM, flight operations have resumed normally.

According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, North Korea launched the trash balloons toward South Korea again the previous night, marking the sixth time this year.

On the night of the 24th, North Korea also released about 350 trash balloons, with around 100 balloons landing in the northern part of Gyeonggi Province and Seoul.
