According to local media reports, the use of wheat in cooking is on the rise in North Korea due to increased wheat cultivation this year.

On Monday, the Chosun Shinbo reported “an unprecedented nationwide wheat and barley harvest in rural areas.”

Citing the data, it added that the national wheat cultivation area surged, rising by 123% compared to last year.

“At farms known for their successful wheat farming, this year’s grain purchase plan was significantly exceeded, resulting in hundreds of kilograms of wheat being distributed to each household,” the report claimed.

In particular, in the Samjigang Collective Farm in Jaeryeong County, South Hwanghae Province, the number of people looking to use processed wheat in their diet rose significantly compared to previous years.

The newspaper stated that “the operation rate of the farm’s wheat processing facilities has increased, with many households in this farm area making pumpkin pancakes and leek pancakes.”
