Yesterday, the April 25 House of Culture in Pyongyang hosted a ceremony for the Paektusan Hero Youth Shock Brigade. This brigade is being dispatched to aid recovery efforts in North Pyongan Province’s flood-damaged areas. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un attended the event.

North Korea’s state-run newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported this morning that “in less than a week after deciding to dispatch the Paektusan Hero Youth Shock Brigade to build homes in the flood-affected areas of Sinuiju City and Uiju County, over 300,000 young people have resolved to head to the recovery sites.”

During the ceremony, Kim stated that the recovery efforts in the Amnok River basin represent a monumental construction campaign that will completely transform a part of their territory.

According to the newspaper, Kim expressed confidence that the brigade would demonstrate revolutionary spirit and creativity as a special dispatch from the party and outlined the combat tasks that lie ahead for them.

Kim emphasized, “Let the young participants advance towards victory, showcasing the dignity, pride, and bravery of the honored Korean youth without disappointing the expectations of their parents, teachers, organizations, and comrades.”

The ceremony featured a discussion led by Ryu Chol Jin, the Paektusan Hero Youth Shock Brigade chief, followed by the reading of an oath of allegiance to Kim.

On that day, Jo Yong Won, Kim Jae Ryong, and Pak Thae Song, secretaries of the WPK Central Committee; Ju Chang Il and Kim Jong Sun, department directors of the WPK Central Committee; Mun Chol, chairman of the Central Committee of the youth league; officials of the youth league; commanding officers and members of the Paektusan Hero Youth Shock Brigade; and other young people and students were present.
