Tragedy at the Park: 6 Dead After Lightning Hits Pavilion

Daniel Kim Views

A lightning bolt struck a pavilion in a park in the Changzhou Economic Development Zone of Jiangsu Province, China, causing six casualties.

According to Xinhua News Agency, yesterday, the accident occurred at 8:36 PM the day before.

A lightning strike with strong winds hit the pavilion in Hengshanqiao Township in Changzhou Economic Development Zone. The impact caused the pavilion to collapse. As a result, 16 people who were underneath were trapped under the debris.

Fortunately, rescuers arrived swiftly and managed to address the situation. Sadly, six of the injured were taken to the hospital but later succumbed to their injuries. The remaining ten individuals who were injured are reported to be in stable condition and not facing life-threatening issues.

Authorities have begun recovery efforts at the scene and thoroughly inspect the facilities to ensure safety. Given that the park opened less than a year ago, it will likely face increased scrutiny regarding its safety management, especially following such a severe incident soon after its opening.
