In a bizarre incident, an Indian man chopped off four of his own fingers to make himself unfit for his job.

The Hindustan Times reported the shocking case of Mayur Tarapara, who was found with four fingers missing from his left hand.

Tarapara, a resident of Surat in Gujarat, was discovered lying on the street, bleeding heavily. He initially told responding police officers that he had been riding his motorcycle to a friend’s house when he suddenly felt dizzy and lost consciousness. Upon regaining consciousness, he noticed four fingers on his left hand missing.

The police, initially suspecting foul play or the involvement of a criminal group or cult, launched an extensive search of the area. Their investigation led to the discovery of a kitchen knife and a bag containing the severed fingers in a nearby river.

However, as suspicions mounted, authorities increased their questioning of Tarapara. Eventually, he confessed to the self-mutilation, stating, “I wanted to leave the family business but didn’t dare to express it, so I resorted to cutting off my own fingers.” It was later revealed that Tarapara worked as an IT staff member at a diamond processing company run by his relatives.

Tarapara provided a detailed account of his actions, explaining, “I purchased a knife from a store in the city, severed four of my fingers on the spot, secured a rope around my elbow to avoid blood flow, and then disposed of the knife and my fingers in a bag.”
