NVIDIA announced on the 18th at the opening of the annual developers’ conference, GTC (GPU Technology Conference) 2024 that it is expanding its cooperation with Chinese automakers like BYD.

According to a Securities Times report, they will provide the next-generation vehicle chip “DriveThor” for BYD vehicles next year.

DriveThor is a car computer that NVIDIA unveiled at GTC in 2022. It boasts a computing performance of 2000 teraflops (TFLOPS). It can be used in various ways, such as utilizing its computing performance for autonomous driving or partly for digital cockpit and infotainment.

In addition, NVIDIA announced that it would strengthen its cooperation with many other Chinese auto companies, including Xiaopeng (9868.HK), Aion, Geely Auto, and Li Auto, apart from BYD.

Danny Shapiro, Vice President of NVIDIA’s Automotive Business Unit, said, “This partnership will extend beyond automobiles to the entire business area,” adding, “All types of AI, now all car companies training generative AI, are adopting NVIDIA’s system.”
