Ioniq 6 and Kona EV joining the lineup to set new records

Hyundai Motor Company is gaining prominence in the U.S. electric vehicle (EV) market by showcasing its brand-specific EV models. In particular, the Ioniq 5, which made it to the top six best-selling electric cars in the U.S. last year, continues its record-breaking sales streak, receiving recognition for its sophisticated design and superior performance.

According to Hyundai Motor America (HMA), on the 3rd, Hyundai sold 3,361 units of the Ioniq 5 in the U.S. electric car market last month. This figure is a 58% surge compared to the same month last year (2,114 units), setting a record for the highest sales in March. Thanks to the success of the Ioniq 5, HMA’s gross electric car sales for the same month grew by 100% compared to last year.

Due to its performance last month, the Ioniq 5 also set a new sales record for the first quarter (January-March). During this period, it posted a sales volume of 6,822 units, an 18% increase compared to last year. This was also largely driven by the Ioniq 5. As a result, HMA’s electric car sales for the first quarter expanded by 62% compared to last year.

Kona EV, the small electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) model, also joined the record-breaking sales march. With a competitive price tag of less than $33,000, it recorded the highest-ever sales in the first quarter. This is attributed to the warm reception of the upgraded 2024 Kona EV in terms of both design and performance.

An industry insider stated, “Hyundai’s local market position is gradually expanding due to local electric car price reduction policies and bold incentives.” They added, “The Ioniq 6 and Kona EV, which offer affordable lease options starting at $169 per month, are gaining popularity.”

Meanwhile, HMA sold 76,920 units in the U.S. market last month, a 2% increase from last year (75,404 units), marking the highest monthly sales volume.
