Revolution on Wheels: BYD’s Global Electric Pickup Truck

globalautonews Views

BYD plans to release an electric pickup truck for the global market this year. It’s a medium-to-large segment model introduced through China’s CarNewsChina in October last year. At the time, it was said to be launched by 2023, but it wasn’t.

This time, CnEVPost introduced a prototype wrapped in camouflage. According to the media, the release of BYD’s pickup truck, which started to emerge at the end of 2022, is finalized now and under development.

In China, pickup trucks are classified as small trucks and face many restrictions compared to regular passenger car models such as sedans, SUVs, and MPVs. Therefore, they appear to be developing vehicles for the global market rather than the Chinese market.

On highways in China, pickup trucks must drive in the slowest lane on the far right and cannot exceed 62 miles per hour (100km/h). The maximum highway speed for regular passenger cars is 74.5 miles per hour (120km/h). According to CnEVPost, pickup trucks must also not be used for more than 15 years, after which they must be scrapped.

Furthermore, many cities in China restrict pickup trucks from entering urban areas, but these restrictions have reportedly been relaxed over the past few years.
