Delta Air Lines Boeing 767 passenger plane made a U-turn in mid-flight when an emergency slide fell off.
According to the AP on the 27th (local time), shortly after taking off from New York on Friday, Delta Air Lines passenger plane pilots felt vibrations when an emergency slide fell off, and they turned back to John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration reported that the crew was the first to report the vibrations.
According to the airline, the aircraft in question was a 1990 Boeing 767. After receiving a warning about the emergency slide on the plane’s right side, the pilots heard a strange noise and declared an emergency. The airplane landed on its power and then taxied to the gate.
The aircraft carried 176 passengers, 2 pilots, and 5 crew members. Delta Air Lines transferred the passengers to another flight to California.
Delta Air Lines said, “Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and crew, so the crew followed procedures to return to JFK following their training.”
Additionally, Delta Air Lines stated that the aircraft involved in the incident has been grounded for evaluation, and they are cooperating with investigators and supporting efforts to locate the slide.
