Microsoft’s Next Move: Data Center Launches in Thailand

Daniel Kim Views

Microsoft is set to establish a data center in Thailand.

On the first of the month, Microsoft announced it would open its first regional data center in Thailand to enhance the availability of its cloud services.

This news came just a day after Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft Corporation, announced a $1.7 billion investment in Indonesia’s AI and cloud facilities.

At an event in Bangkok, Nadella discussed the company’s cloud computing platform, stating, “Not only does Thailand have the full capabilities of Azure, but it also possesses world-class AI infrastructure.”

Microsoft announced in a press release that “the regional data center will expand the availability of Microsoft’s hyperscale cloud services.”

The Thailand data center will also aid in the reliability, performance, and compliance with data residency and personal information protection standards for enterprises.

Thailand’s Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, posted on social media, “Today’s announcement with Microsoft is a significant milestone in the journey of our ‘Ignite Thailand’ vision – one that promises new opportunities for growth, innovation, and prosperity for all Thais.”

Moreover, Microsoft pledged to provide AI training to 2.5 million Southeast Asian people by 2025.
