Hyundai & Kia Models Sweep Best Cars for Teen for Safety and Reliability

Hyundai and Kia have set a record for the most wins at the 2024 Best Cars for Teen, conducted by U.S. News & World Report. The vehicles were recognized for their safety and convenience, regardless of whether they were new or used.

U.S. News & World Report states that Hyundai and Kia dominated eight Best Cars for Teens categories.

The Best Cars for Teen is given to vehicles that excel in standard functions such as collision avoidance, convenience, and reliability. The award is divided into new and used car categories to actively recommend vehicles that prioritize the safety and convenience of teenage drivers, who typically have less experience. This year, winners were selected from 13 categories, and all new cars included safety features such as forward collision and lane departure warnings and lane-keeping assistance.

Considering the model and price, a total of five models were selected. Four Hyundai models, including the Elantra, Tucson, Elantra Hybrid, Tucson Hybrid, and Soul from Kia, were chosen in the new car category, which was divided into eight categories. The used car category was split into five categories by segment. Three Hyundai models were chosen, including the Elantra Hybrid, Santa Fe, and Sonata Hybrid. Notably, three winning models were hybrid vehicles evaluated as suitable for American teenagers’ environmental consciousness and financial situation.

“Amidst the excitement of summer break, the 2024 Best Cars for Teens awards serve as a tool for families, ensuring their teen hits the road with confidence and safety,” explains Liz Opsitnik, executive editor of U.S. News. “Each winning vehicle offers active safety features and strong crash test ratings, empowering new drivers behind the wheel and reducing accident risks.”

Hyundai and Kia expect this award to significantly expand their brand presence in the U.S. market. Based on a localized strategy for the winning models, they plan to target teenage drivers.
