Tesla’s Cybertruck Woes Continue with Major Recall

Daniel Kim Views

Tesla is recalling up to 20,000 units of its Cybertruck, the fourth recall since its launch in November 2023.

Tesla announced on Tuesday that it is recalling up to 20,000 units of its Cybertruck pickup. This marks the fourth vehicle recall since its launch in November last year.

The recall was announced in documents sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. According to the document, defects have been found in the windshield wipers and trunk bed trim of Tesla’s Cybertruck.

Tesla explained in the document, “The front windshield wiper motor controllers may stop functioning due to electrical overstress to the gate driver component.”

“A wiper that fails can cut visibility, increasing the risk of an accident,” the company added.

In a separate recall, Tesla explained that a trim piece along the truck bed could come loose and fly off while driving, posing a risk to other drivers and increasing the risk of collisions.

The number of vehicles affected by defects in wipers and exterior trim are reportedly 11,688 and 11,383, respectively.

These recalls mark the third and fourth since Tesla’s stainless steel-clad Cybertruck went on sale on November 30 last year.

Earlier this April, Tesla announced a second recall of nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks over issues with a faulty accelerator pad.

In February, Tesla recalled almost 2.2 million vehicles, including the Model S and Model Y, to fix an issue with the font size, which was too small to read on the instrument panel for the brake, park, antilock, and brake system warning lights. The Cybertruck was included in this recall.
