Tesla’s Humanoid Robot to Transform Industries by 2026

Optimus, Tesla’s humanoid robot, also known as the Tesla Bot, now has a confirmed sales timeline. Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced yesterday that the company plans to sell Optimus in 2026.

This statement came out just a few months after Musk declared that the robot would launch by the end of 2024.

Musk also posted on X, saying, “Tesla will have genuinely useful humanoid robots in low production for Tesla internal use next year.”

“We hope to mass-produce it for other companies by 2026,” he added.

Japan’s Honda and Hyundai Motor’s Boston Dynamics have been the biggest manufacturers of humanoid robots until now. These robots were made to aid potential labor shortages and handle hazardous repetitive tasks such as logistics, warehousing, and manufacturing.

As demand for electric vehicles (EVs) is declining, Musk has recently focused on AI, autonomous driving software, robo-taxis, and the Optimus robot. Electric car sales account for over 80% of Tesla’s quarterly revenue.

Tesla announces its second-quarter financial results today, with Wall Street predicting a five-year low margin. However, analysts are paying close attention to Musk’s plans for the robotics and AI sectors.

Nevertheless, Reuters reported that Musk has a history of failing to meet commitments to Wall Street. In 2019, he told investors that Tesla would operate an autonomous vehicle network by 2020. However, he failed to meet the deadline.

Tesla stock closed at $251.51 on the New York Stock Exchange, up 5.15% from the previous day.
