100,000 BYD EVs Coming to Uber: What It Means for Green Transportation and Driver Savings

globalautonews Views

China’s BYD and Uber announced a new partnership on Wednesday. Under this collaboration, Uber will integrate BYD’s electric vehicles (EVs) into its platform across Europe and Latin America, among other regions. The company plans to introduce 100,000 BYD EVs to Uber’s fleet and expand to additional markets, including the Middle East, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Uber currently operates ride-hailing and food delivery services in over 70 countries and regions worldwide.

BYD aims to make EVs more affordable for Uber drivers. According to BYD and Uber, it would offer drivers access to better pricing, insurance, financing, and other services for BYD vehicles. In principle, Uber does not purchase vehicles directly from BYD. In some markets, Uber offers loan and lease plans for drivers.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said that when drivers switch to EVs, they can reduce emissions by up to four times compared to the average driver. Uber has set a goal of making all its ride-hailing vehicles in the US, Canada, and Europe zero-emission by 2030.

BYD’s electric vehicles are known for their affordability and low maintenance and repair costs. Moreover, BYD and Uber may offer charging, maintenance, insurance, financing, and leasing discounts.
