Apple and NVIDIA are reportedly considering major investments in OpenAI.

On Thursday, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported, “OpenAI and NVIDIA are pursuing funding led by prominent U.S. venture capital firm Thrive Capital. Apple is in discussions about joining the investment.”

According to WSJ, Thrive Capital is expected to invest around $1 billion in this funding round, and Microsoft’s additional investment is also under consideration. Microsoft is currently the largest investor in OpenAI, holding a 49% stake after investing $13 billion.

If Apple and NVIDIA proceed with their investments, they will join the ranks of OpenAI’s major shareholders alongside Microsoft.

The exact investment amounts for Apple and NVIDIA have not been disclosed. However, WSJ forecasts that each will invest several billion dollars.

Apple also plans to partner with OpenAI to add AI features to its latest iPhone 16, which will launch next month.
