Tesla Hits Record 249K Deliveries in China Amid EV Subsidy Surge

On October 5, former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump held a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Tesla CEO Elon Musk was in attendance and was seen raising his arms in the air during the event, according to Reuters.

According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers reported by Bloomberg, Tesla’s Shanghai factory achieved record quarterly deliveries, thanks to China’s electric vehicle subsidy policies. In September alone, Tesla delivered approximately 88,321 Model 3 sedans and Model Y SUVs, a 19% increase from last year.

Tesla has delivered a total of 249,135 vehicles in China, surpassing the previous quarterly record of 248,686 units set in the fourth quarter of last year. The increase in sales within China is largely attributed to China’s government offering a 20,000 yuan (approximately $2,700) subsidy to encourage drivers to replace older vehicles with new electric cars, benefiting Tesla and other automakers.

Tesla’s sales momentum is expected to continue this month, as China recently introduced economic stimulus measures. Car showrooms saw an increase in visitors during the country’s National Day holiday in early October.

Despite this growth in China, Tesla’s global vehicle deliveries for the third quarter totaled 462,890, falling short of market expectations of 463,900.

Meanwhile, Tesla’s long-awaited robotaxi prototype is set to be unveiled on Thursday after being delayed for about two months due to design changes. The unveiling will take place at an event called “We, Robot” at the Warner Bros. studio in Burbank, California, where they will showcase the robotaxi prototype and discuss future business strategies. Tesla CEO Elon Musk is expected to introduce the robotaxi, also known as the CyberCab, a vehicle rumored to be fully autonomous, designed without a steering wheel or pedals.
