China’s cumulative express delivery volume surpassed 170 billion last year.

On Thursday, CCTV reported that the country’s total number of express deliveries reached 174.5 billion last year, according to the latest data from China’s State Post Bureau. The express delivery industry generated revenue of 1.4 trillion yuan (approximately $194.5 billion).

The cumulative number of express deliveries increased by 21% compared to 2023, marking China’s 11th consecutive year as the global leader in express delivery volume. Revenue in the express delivery sector increased by 13%. Notably, the express delivery network in western regions continued to expand, and the number of deliveries in Gansu, Inner Mongolia, and Guangxi increased by more than 40% compared to the previous year.

In China, the world’s largest e-commerce market, major players like Alibaba, JD.com, and Pinduoduo drive the increasing delivery volumes. This rapid growth in express delivery coincides with improvements in rural transportation infrastructure. There are 1,300 express delivery processing centers of a certain scale in China, with a maximum daily processing capacity of 729 million packages.

CCTV highlighted that fully automated sorting equipment, drones, uncrewed vehicles, and other smart technologies have further enhanced delivery capabilities. Over 3 million drones delivered 3 million packages in the Chinese express delivery industry last year.
