According to a recent report by Electrek, Kia plans to launch the EV2 in January next year. The EV2 will be positioned below the electric SUV EV3, offering a more compact and affordable option in Kia’s expanding EV range.

Kia has steadily grown its electric vehicle portfolio by introducing the EV3, EV4, and EV5 models. The upcoming EV2 is a key part of Kia’s “EV for Everyone” strategy, primarily targeting the European market with a projected price of around $30,000. In Korea, the starting price is expected to be even more competitive at approximately $15,000.

Kia CEO Ho Sung Song underscored the importance of producing affordable electric vehicles for the brand. He stated an apparent demand for compact EVs in the European market, highlighting the strategic focus on competitively priced, small electric cars.

The EV2 is slated for production at Kia’s first European manufacturing facility in Zilina, Slovakia. The vehicle is expected to leverage Hyundai’s E-GMP platform and potentially offer a range of over 300 miles (WLTP). Design-wise, the EV2 will likely share styling cues with its EV3 and EV5 siblings while featuring Kia’s latest ccNC (Connected Car Navigation Cockpit) infotainment system inside.

Kia does not plan to introduce the EV2 in the United States, likely due to lower demand for compact EVs in this market. Canadian consumers can look forward to its release alongside the EV5. Both models are expected to come standard with NACS ports, ensuring compatibility with Tesla’s Supercharger network.

Industry analysts note that Kia is gaining traction among consumers seeking practical and affordable electric vehicles. The automotive community eagerly anticipates Kia’s future moves in the rapidly evolving EV landscape.
