In the world of electric vehicles, a new contender has emerged. British automaker Vanwall is making waves with the introduction of the Vandervell, a high-performance electric hatchback that combines design and performance to create a powerful combination.

The Vandervell, equipped with an impressive 641 horsepower (650 PS), is returning as a mass-produced vehicle after generating significant buzz with its 2023 rendering. Notably, it is built on the Hyundai Group’s E-GMP platform, the same structure that underpins popular models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ioniq 5 N, and Kia EV6.

While Vanwall has yet to confirm its official use of Hyundai’s platform, the similarities in the design of the door lines and side mirrors suggest a clear influence from the Ioniq 5. This connection has led some to question whether the Vandervell could offer similar value to the Ioniq 5 N, especially given its higher price point.

Performance and Variants: All-Wheel Drive and Weight Reduction

The Vandervell will be offered as an all-wheel-drive model with two key performance variants. The base H-GT produces 320 horsepower (325 PS), while the top-tier N-GT delivers a robust 641 horsepower (650 PS), matching the performance levels of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Kia EV6 GT.

Vanwall also introduces the “Thin Wall Special” model, which focuses on weight reduction. This version keeps the vehicle’s weight under 2,000 kg, optimizing performance for those who want a more agile driving experience.

Striking Design and Limited Production

The Vandervell’s design is heavily inspired by classic rally cars. The bodywork is crafted from carbon fiber to reduce weight, and the vehicle features four round headlights and flared fenders, evoking memories of the iconic Lancia Delta Integrale.

The car’s striking presence is further enhanced by the inclusion of gold-colored 22-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels, which create a bold visual impact.

The interior details have yet to be fully revealed, but Vanwall has indicated that luxurious materials like leather and velvet will be used to create an upscale atmosphere. As a limited-production model, the Vandervell will also offer customized options for discerning buyers.

In addition to the Vandervell, Vanwall is also developing a race car for the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and a hypercar boasting 1,000 horsepower and weighing just 2,204 pounds. The Vandervell will be produced in a limited run of only 500 units, with prices starting at €128,000 (approximately $138,000).

While the release schedule for the Vandervell may change due to the nature of EV projects, the arrival of this high-performance electric hatchback is eagerly anticipated. Vanwall’s bold entry into the EV market will surely draw attention, and it will be exciting to see how Vandervell performs against its competitors in this segment.
