According to a report by InsideEV on Wednesday, Tesla has filed two trademark applications for the name “Robus” with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

According to the report, one trademark application is for electric vehicles, while the other covers ride-sharing and general commercial services.

Last year, Tesla showcased the 20-seat electric passenger vehicle RoboVan and the robotaxi Cybercab at a robotaxi event in California, USA. While Tesla currently refers to these vehicles as “Robotaxi” and “Robovan,” it remains to be seen whether “Robus” will become the official name for this initiative.

InsideEV cautions that, as with many patent filings, not all applications necessarily result in actual products, emphasizing the need to monitor the situation closely.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has long promised the imminent release of self-driving automobiles. Nevertheless, the logistical and technical problems that must be fixed to accomplish this remain unclear.

Tesla has announced plans to launch a paid, unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) service in Austin, Texas, this June.
