Shocking Ways Young Men Try to Avoid Military Service Revealed – Part 3

Daniel Kim Views

Expansion of Special Judicial Police Duties and Thorough Verification

In response, the MMA plans to tighten control over detecting draft dodgers. At the beginning of this year, a Cyber Investigation Division was newly established in the headquarters. A Military Investigation Division was established in the Gyeonggi-do Office, and the number of special judicial police officers was expanded from 40 to 60. Twenty-two special judicial police officers (11 in the Military Investigations Division and the Cyber Investigation Division) work at the headquarters, and 38 work at the local offices. This is a measure taken as the need for more precise surveillance of illegal activities online has increased with the expansion of the duties of the special judicial police.

The duties of the special judicial police will be expanded from the second half of this year to include investigating those who run away or hide to dodge or reduce military service, violators of the prohibition of posting and distributing information related to draft dodging and reduction, and draft dodgers who avoid physical examinations such as military service determination tests and recruitment and conscription.

In addition, since last year, those who have received physical grades 4 to 6 after the military service ㅇdetermination tests examination and are subject to intensive management for diseases have been screened for suspects of illegal activities through the medical advisory group. In the future, big data techniques will be applied to those diagnosed with grades 4 to 6 to collect integrated data on disease-specific data, medical records, qualifications, license acquisition, etc., for thorough verification. The suspects filtered through this become the investigation target of the special judicial police.

An official from the MMA said, “Draft evasion crimes must be uncovered at some point” and “We will track down suspects through digital forensics, big data analysis, and confirmation physical examinations, and continue to search for information promoting draft evasion online to detect criminal activities.”
