A man in Japan is going viral for being in a polygamous relationship with four wives and two girlfriends.

South China Morning Post featured the story of 36-year-old Ryuuta Watanabe, who lives in northern Hokkaido.

Although Japan does not legally allow polygamy, Watanabe currently lives with three common-law wives and two children. He relies solely on the salaries of his wives and girlfriends for his living expenses, making no additional income.

He has a fourth wife, but their relationship has soured. Watanabe also dates two girlfriends through social media and has ten children, including the ones living with him.

Earlier this year, Watanabe appeared on a television show and shared, “My wives each have their separate rooms, and we take turns sleeping together every night.” He added, “We have sex more than 28 times a week. My wives get along like friends.”

Watanabe expressed his desire to continue finding new wives, stating his dream is to have 54 children. He aims to break the record held by the shogun Ienari Tokugawa, known to have had 53 children, the most in Japanese history.

Previously suffering from depression, Watanabe explained that he has met various women through dating apps. “I just love women. If we love each other equally, there shouldn’t be any problems,” he shared.

People online had mixed reactions. Several questioned Watanabe’s ability to bond properly with his many children. Others shared that his choice should be respected.
