‘Die Hard’ Rebirth: Bruce Willis Remembered with Love Despite Dementia Struggles

tvreport Views

After 35 years, the movie ‘Die Hard,’ re-released in North America, has achieved success at the box office, and the longing for actor Bruce Willis, who continues to battle dementia, is growing.

On the 8th (local time), the film *Die Hard* was re-released in North America to celebrate its 35th anniversary. Over the weekend, *Die Hard* raked in a total of $923,000 (approximately 1.2 billion KRW), causing another box office sensation.

*Die Hard*, released in 1988, is an action film that depicts the standoff between Detective John McClane and terrorists who have seized a New York building. Despite being produced on a low budget of $28 million (approximately 36.8 billion KRW), the film grossed $140 million (approximately 184.1 billion KRW) upon release, making it one of the highest-grossing films of the year.

Actor Bruce Willis, who played John McClane in *Die Hard*, quickly rose to stardom as an icon of action films. His portrayal of John McClane, a humanistic character far from perfection compared to typical action film heroes, was loved by many. In July of this year, marking the 35th anniversary of the release of *Die Hard*, Willis showed his special affection for the film by visiting the *Die Hard* mural with his wife and children.

Meanwhile, Bruce Willis announced his retirement last year and officially revealed that he is suffering from frontotemporal dementia and aphasia. Currently, Willis is reported to be spending time with his family and receiving their care.

On the 6th (local time), an insider told US Weekly, “Since no one knows how much time Bruce has left, his family is making the most out of every moment with him.” The insider added, “Because there have been more bad days than good, everything revolves around him,” revealing Willis’s recent situation. Movie fans around the world have been expressing their sorrow as news of Willis’s deteriorating health has been reported in recent months.

The box office success of *Die Hard*, re-released after 35 years, is significant in reminding us once again of Bruce Willis’s contribution to the history of action films. As an icon of action films, many audiences are nostalgic for Willis, and messages of support wishing him a speedy recovery continue to pour in.
