BLACKPINK, NewJeans, and TWICE Rule Spotify Streams for International Women’s Day

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Spotify revealed crucial streaming data highlighting the dominance of Korean female artists.

Spotify data reveals a massive 602% surge in global streams of Korean female artists over the past year alone since 2018. With over 24 billion streams, it’s clear that K-pop girl groups are dominating the music scene worldwide.

BLACKPINK was the most streamed Korean female artist worldwide in 2023, followed by NewJeans, TWICE, LE SSERAFIM, and FIFTY FIFTY.

In 2023, FIFTY FIFTY’s “Cupid – Twin Ver.” reigned supreme as the most streamed song by a Korean female artist on Spotify. NewJeans followed closely behind, swooping up the #2, #3, and #4 spots with “OMG,” “Ditto,” and “Super Shy” respectively. Rounding out the top 5 is BLACKPINK’s Jisoo with her solo track “Flower,” further solidifying her global influence.

In 2021, Spotify launched EQUAL to celebrate International Women’s Day and to promote female artists and creators from various fields and genres worldwide.

The EQUAL hub features a diverse playlist of works by female artists and creators, helping listeners to consistently tune in to the voices of female artists and creators in their daily lives.

The EQUAL Korea playlist has been a treasure trove for the past three years, introducing fans to nearly 1,400 songs from talented Korean female artists. And the most-streamed track on EQUAL Korea? None other than Jisoo’s solo hit “Flower”, proving its global impact.

As part of the 2022 EQUAL campaign, Spotify collaborated with SUNMI on a singles project. In January, they selected NewJeans as their EQUAL campaign ambassador, giving them a significant boost on the EQUAL Global playlist. Through the EQUAL hub, Spotify is dedicated to breaking down barriers and showcasing the incredible talent of Korean female artists to fans worldwide.
