According to CNN, on the 25th, Minaj was detained by police at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport on suspicion of drug possession. The police reported finding marijuana in Minaj’s bag.
Minaj is on a world tour for her studio album Pink Friday 2. She had just finished a performance in Amsterdam and was going to Manchester, UK, for her next show.
Minaj live-streamed her arrest on Instagram. In the video, the police instructed her to exit the vehicle and enter a police van. When Minaj asked why she had to get in the van, the police responded that she was being arrested on suspicion of drug possession. Minaj disputed this, stating, “I don’t have any drugs.”
Minaj repeatedly asked for the address of the police station where she was being taken and for a lawyer, but the police repeatedly told her to stop filming. Eventually, after a struggle, Minaj was transferred to a police vehicle.
Following this, Minaj posted a video showing a police officer stating they needed to “inspect all of her luggage,” along with several posts. She claimed, “They’re doing this to disrupt my tour because they’re paid to,” and argued, “Many people are upset simply because my tour is successful.”
Minaj was taken to a nearby police station and was reportedly released a few hours later after paying a fine. However, her scheduled performance that day was ultimately postponed.
The organizers informed the fans at the concert venue that it had become impossible to proceed despite Minaj’s attempts to explore every possible way to perform that night. They apologized for the inconvenience and assured tickets would remain valid for the rescheduled show.
