How THIS Chanel Model Became a Millionaire from Part-Time Delivery Giggs

Top model Shin Hyun-ji earns $750K a year
A part-time job at a food delivery service?

Shin Hyun-ji, a Korean model who first stepped onto the Chanel collection stage through the 2016 F/W show. Since then, she has consistently participated in Chanel fashion shows. In the Ready-to-Wear FW 2020/21, she became the first Asian model to close the show with world-renowned top models Gigi Hadid and Mona Tougaard.

She earned an enormous income of $750K per year. However, due to COVID-19, her work decreased significantly, and her income was cut in half. As a result, she worked as a food delivery person through a delivery app for 4 to 5 months.

Despite still being in her 20s, Shin Hyun-ji felt that her sense of reality was lacking because she had more economic power than her peers. She became curious about whether she was also someone full of vitality, and she decided to try a different lifestyle because she had never done an ordinary part-time job before.

So, Shin Hyun-ji installed a delivery app and started working as a delivery person. She earned about 700,000 to 800,000 won (about US$530 to $600) per month through delivery work, making about 2,000 to 3,000 won per order (about US$1.5 to $2.25). She did it consistently for 4 to 5 months and paid comprehensive income tax.

She said that she wore her brother’s long puffer coat and a mask during the winter while doing deliveries. However, the transportation she used while working as a delivery person was an expensive electric bicycle worth 5 million won (about US$4,000).

She worried someone might steal the bicycle if she left it unattended and rode the elevator. She was constantly afraid that she would have to work as a delivery person for another 5 months if she had to buy a new bicycle. Despite her fears, she managed to laugh it off.

Shin Hyun-ji successfully got through the period of the COVID-19 pandemic while working part-time. After closing the Chanel 2023 S/S Haute Couture show alone in January, she once again closed the F/W Haute Couture show alone in July, showcasing her dignity as a global model.
