On the 29th (local time), South Korean President Yoon Seok Yul and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida jointly won the 2023 Profile in Courage Award presented by the U.S. John F. Kennedy Foundation.

According to the Presidential Office, Ambassador Jo Hyun-dong attended the award ceremony held at the JFK Foundation Library and Museum in Boston on behalf of the President, and the President delivered his acceptance speech via video.

President Yoon said, “I feel a heavy sense of responsibility to contribute to the freedom, peace, and prosperity of the world through the strong solidarity of Korea, the U.S., and Japan.”

He continued, “Since high school, I have admired President John F. Kennedy while studying English through his inaugural address and the Berlin speech. The values and worldview he pursued brought about social change and scientific advancement through his courage and determination.”

He added, “That is the New Frontier. President Kennedy’s insight that there can be no reform or innovation without courage has been a great lesson for me.”

President Yoon said, “I am honored to receive the ‘Profile in Courage Award,’ which symbolizes his New Frontier spirit. Courage originates from a thorough attitude of sacrifice and dedication, and I have pledged to work harder.” He also expressed his pleasure to receive the award together with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
