According to the Korean Central News Agency and other sources, on the 5th, the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly of North Korea recently held a plenary meeting. It proposed the establishment of Missile Industry Day, among other issues. The Standing Committee unanimously adopted the proposal to establish Missile Industry Day.

Under the guidance of Chairman of the State Affairs Commission Kim Jong-un, North Korea test-launched the new ICBM, the Hwasong-17, on November 18, 2022. The Hwasong-17 was launched from Pyongyang International Airport. It was reported to have flown a distance of 620.35 miles for 1 hour and 9 minutes and accurately landed in the planned area of the East Sea.

North Korean media is highly praising the establishment of Missile Industry Day, calling it a “historic day.” The Rodong Sinmun explained, “November 18, 2022, when the might of the strongest intercontinental ballistic missile-possessing country was demonstrated, is a historic day when a major event to be noted in the sacred journey was achieved.”

Adding that it is “to record this forever,” it was further emphasized as “an expression of the firm and unshakable will of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the government of the republic, and the entire people of the country.”

Meanwhile, it was reported that in addition to the establishment of Missile Industry Day, the plenary meeting also reviewed the issue of restructuring the Education Committee into the Ministry of Education.
