A story of a husband leaving a 60-day-old newborn alone for 20 minutes has sparked outrage among netizens.

Recently, a post emerged on an online community stating, “My husband left our 60-day-old baby home alone while he went to the convenience store.”

The author of the post, identified as A, explained, “He said he went out to buy beer. Can you believe it? It was my first day at my parents’ house since leaving the postnatal care center, and I trusted my husband, leaving him a timeline of everything to do.”

She continued, “I saw on the baby cam we installed at home that he left the baby alone for almost 20 minutes. When I asked, he said he went to the convenience store to buy beer.”

She then vented, “Is he crazy? I seriously considered divorcing him for a moment.”

Some netizens who read the post argued, “What could happen in just 20 minutes?” and “She’s overreacting. Don’t even take the baby in the car because accidents can happen.”

However, most people criticized the husband. They commented, “Isn’t it obvious that you can’t do that?” “Is leaving the house completely the same as going to the bathroom for a moment?” “20 minutes is too long.” “It’s right to be overly cautious regarding a child.”

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, from 2011 to 2014, approximately 3,500 infants lost their lives due to accidents during sleep, including suffocation, indicating that infants are at high risk of accidents even when left alone for a short time.

Moreover, the act of leaving an infant alone for a long period can be considered child abandonment or neglect under child welfare law.
