joynews24 Views

NewJeans has set another record on Spotify.

According to Spotify, the world’s largest streaming platform, as of September 7th, the total number of streams of all songs released by NewJeans (Minji, Hani, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein) reached 3,065,703,564. This means that just 15 months after their debut, NewJeans has quickly accumulated over 3 billion streams.

NewJeans made their mark as a global trending artist by consecutively hitting it big with their debut album, New Jeans, in August last year, followed by their single album OMG in January this year, and their second mini-album Get Up in July. They achieved a combined total of 1 billion streams on Spotify in March, setting a record for the shortest time (219 days) for a K-pop artist to reach that milestone, which the Guinness World Records recognized. Less than five months later, they surpassed 2 billion streams, and in just about three months, they added another billion streams, showing a steep growth rate.

So far, NewJeans has produced nine songs, each garnering over 100 million streams on Spotify. “OMG” has been streamed over 500 million times, “Ditto” and “Hype Boy” each over 400 million times, “Attention” and “Super Shy” each over 300 million times, and “Cookie,” “Hurt,” “New Jeans,” and “ETA” each over 100 million times.

Their success continues on the Spotify charts. The title track, “Super Shy,” from their second mini-album Get Up, has been on the Daily Top Songs global chart for over four months, and it also maintained its position in the top 100 on the ‘Weekly Top Songs’ global chart (as of November 2nd) for 17 consecutive weeks.

Meanwhile, NewJeans is set to perform at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) on the 19th (local time). They are the first K-pop girl group to perform at the BBMAs. This comes after NewJeans was nominated for the most awards among K-pop artists at this year’s BBMAs. After their debut, they were selected as performers in the shortest time (15 months), genuinely demonstrating their status as a ‘global trending’ artist.
