Public opinion is cold. There is strong criticism of Himchan’s decision to appeal his suspended sentence, despite facing three counts of sexual offenses during his trial and opinions that his punishment was lenient.

Himchan is accused of his third sexual offense, having been charged with forcibly molesting a woman in her 20s at a pension in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, in 2018, molesting a Korean woman and a foreign woman by touching their waists and chests at a bar in Yongsan-gu, Seoul in April 2022, and sexually harassing another woman at a location in Eunpyeong Gu, Seoul in May 2022.

In response, the Seoul Western District Court’s Criminal Agreement 12th Division sentenced Himchan to three years in prison with five years of probation on February 1st during a public trial. They also ordered 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures and a three-year employment ban on organizations related to children, adolescents, and the disabled. They imposed a special compliance situation of not drinking alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.05% or more.
