LG Electronics Faces Class-Action Lawsuit in U.S. Over Refrigerator Defects

Daniel Kim Views

LG Electronics has been engulfed in a class-action lawsuit in the US over performance defects in its refrigerator products.

This lawsuit was filed by some consumers in the US, claiming that LG Electronics’ refrigerators do not meet their expected lifespan.

These consumers are pursuing a lawsuit against Kenmore refrigerators equipped with LG Electronics’ compressors produced in 2018.

The lawyer handling the lawsuit, Azar Mouzari, criticized, “Despite LG Electronics claiming a 10-year warranty and 20-year durability for the refrigerator’s linear compressor, the actual lifespan does not meet this.”

In response, LG Electronics explained, “Refrigeration performance issues can occur due to various factors, and we provide a full warranty for five years, including parts and labor costs related to this.”

An LG Electronics official told AlphaBIZ, “The local media only wrote an article dealing with the unilateral claims of the plaintiffs, and there is no proven compressor defect.”

He continued, “Not only LG, but also companies like GE, Whirlpool, Samsung, and others are frequently facing class-action lawsuits due to some defects,” adding, “In the past, there was no conclusion due to parts defects, even when there were compressor-related problems.”
