A woman in Spain has sparked controversy by claiming that dropping urine into the eyes can cure myopia and astigmatism.

The woman shared her experiences on her TikTok account, claiming that “urine is effective in treating impaired vision.”

She stated that she put urine in her eyes daily until her astigmatism and myopia were cured, explaining that “to see optimal results, you should put urine in your eyes every morning and night.”

She further argued that urine is a much healthier alternative than conventional drugs filled with chemical ingredients, which received significant backlash.

Urine can contain harmful microbes and bacteria due to its acidic pH. It can pose risks of severe infections and eye damage when applied to the eyes.

The video containing these remarks gained traction online, recording 800,000 views and “likes.”

Most netizens responded negatively, leaving comments like “It’s nonsense and dangerous.”

Meanwhile, urine therapy or urotherapy is a form of alternative medicine that gained popularity in the early 20th century, primarily promoted by British naturopath John W. Armstrong.

Those who advocate this treatment have reported using urine for medical or cosmetic purposes, including massaging the skin or gums with urine and even drinking it.
