Pope Francis condemned the shooting and arson attack that killed over 200 people at a venue on the outskirts of Moscow, Russia, calling it a “despicable attack challenging God.”

According to foreign media such as AFP, on the 24th, the Pope, who presided over the Palm Sunday Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica, strongly criticized the incident in front of the public gathered in the square, calling it a “despicable attack, challenging God who commanded not to kill.”

He promised, “I will pray for the victims of the horrific terrorist attack in Moscow,” adding, “I hope the Lord will peacefully accept the victims, comfort the affected families, and call for a change of heart among those responsible for such inhumane actions.”

Pope Francis delegated the reading of the sermon during the Mass due to health issues. The Vatican announced it was due to bronchitis and cold symptoms that had persisted since the previous month. After the Mass, he spoke to the faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square and greeted them from his vehicle.
