Foreign ministers from the 32 member nations of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) have gathered in Brussels, Belgium, for a two-day meeting to mark the organization’s 75th anniversary, the Financial Times (FT) and others reported on the 4th (local time). While NATO has agreed on the principle of further support for Ukraine through the meeting, a specific agreement has not been reached.

“Allies understand the urgency of supporting Ukraine,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in the press conference, adding that “each of them will now return to their home countries to look for additional military support, including Patriot missiles.”

NATO has agreed to set up a fund of up to $100 billion (approximately 135 trillion won) over the next five years for military support in Ukraine. They also discussed the possibility of placing the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG), an international consultative body for Ukraine support, under the NATO umbrella.

The FT evaluated that NATO is to take on a role in coordinating arms aid to Ukraine, noting that the move is “aimed at the re-election of former U.S. President Donald Trump, whose support for Ukraine is negative.”
