Unlock New iPhone Capabilities with iOS 18

Apple announced a significant improvement in user convenience and an enhancement of artificial intelligence features through the iOS 18 update at the World Developers Conference (WWDC 24) on June 10.

Apple Intelligence AI will be incorporated in iOS 18 and is set to be installed in the iPhone 16. The new iPhone is expected to be released in September and will be updated sequentially.

The main features are call recording and the ability to arrange the apps, a first in 17 years. Other AI-related upgrades, such as the integration of ChatGPT into Siri (Apple Interactive AI), are also gaining attention.

One of the key aspects of this update is the improvement of the recent call log. Users found it inconvenient that touching a number in the recent call log would immediately dial that number. With the new update, if the user touches a number in their call log, the person’s contact information will be displayed. Users must press the call button again to dial, which will reduce the inconvenience of accidentally making a call.

The freedom of app arrangement has also received positive responses from many users. Previously, all apps on the iPhone had to be densely aligned without any gaps, but now, users can arrange apps as they wish.

This change allows users to personalize their iPhone home screen further, and prevent important wallpapers from being covered by app icons.

The call recording feature is also a significant change in this update. It is integrated with Apple Intelligence AI, which can automatically transcribe and summarize recorded call content. The call recording feature is available on all iPhones that have installed iOS 18. However, both parties are notified when a recording is taking place.

The industry believes that Apple’s decision to notify both parties of the call recording is due to some U.S. and European states considering unauthorized call recording illegal.

The update includes adding the Rich Communication Services (RCS) feature to the messaging app, improving the integration between iMessage and Android devices. As a result, users can send and receive messages more reliably and utilize various communication features.

Senior Vice President of Software Engineering at Apple Craig Federighi described the iOS 18 update as “a historic iOS boasting amazing new features such as new dimensions of customization options, significant improvements to the Photos app, and excellent communication methods through the Messages app.” He encouraged users to experience these new features for themselves.
