Miracle in the Mountains: Hiker Found Alive After 10-Day Ordeal

A 30-year-old man Californian who went missing while hiking was rescued after ten days. He survived by drinking stream water and eating wild berries.

On the evening of the 20th, the California Fire Department rescued Lukas McClish, who was stranded deep in the mountains of Big Basin Redwoods State Park, south of San Francisco.

The fire department noted, “There were multiple reports of witnesses hearing someone yelling for help, but the location of that person was hard to establish.” However, with the help of a drone from the local security office, they found McClish.

McClish stopped by a friend’s house near Big Basin Redwoods State Park on the morning of the 11th and decided to go hiking alone. He thought he could return in about three hours and only brought a flashlight and a knife.

McClish mentioned that he did not anticipate the recent wildfire would destroy the path. He explained that he survived by drinking stream water and eating wild berries until he was rescued.

He said, “I just made sure I drank a gallon of water every day, but then, after getting close to the end of it, my body needed food and some kind of sustenance.”

According to a fire department official, the California State Park team first made contact with him at 7:30 PM.

After the rescue, McClish spent the night in the hospital. It was reported that he didn’t suffer any major injuries. McClish said, “It was just really humbling and I don’t know, it was an awesome experience.”
