UK’s Infamous Child Killer Nurse Faces Fresh Guilty Verdict for Attempted Newborn Murder

Daniel Kim Views

Lucy Letby, known as one of the worst serial child killers in British history, has been found guilty of another attempted infanticide. On Tuesday, the BBC reported that a Manchester Crown Court jury found Letby guilty of trying to murder a premature baby.

Reportedly, Letby attempted to murder a premature baby by removing its breathing tube in the neonatal intensive care unit after it was transferred from the delivery room on February 17, 2016. The baby died three days after birth, with the cause of death confirmed as severe prematurity and respiratory distress syndrome.

Prosecutors described Lucy Letby’s actions as those of a cold and calculated murderer. She was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for the murder of seven newborns and the attempted murder of six others. At the same time, she worked in the neonatal unit of a hospital in Chester County, Northern England, from June 2015 to June 2016.

Most of her victims were premature infants, including one who was only 24 hours old. She committed heinous acts by forcibly feeding the babies, over-injecting air into their veins, and administering lethal overdoses of insulin. Despite these allegations, Letby denied any wrongdoing, insisting she had never harmed any of the babies she cared for at that time.

The police are conducting further investigations to determine if there were any victims at the hospitals where Letby previously worked. Meanwhile, the final verdict on the attempted infanticide case will be held on the 5th.
