Robert Kennedy Jr.’s Dog Meat Scandal: Truth or Misunderstanding?

Daniel Kim Views

Independent candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. is embroiled in an unexpected controversy over eating dog meat in South Korea.

Vanity Fair reported that last year, Kennedy Jr. sent a picture to a friend in which he appeared ready to tear into a whole roasted animal with a woman.

The report suggests he hinted at having eaten dog meat by asking a friend planning a trip to Asia about the best restaurant in South Korea selling dog meat. The magazine also noted that the photo in question was taken in 2010.

Kennedy Jr. publicly explained that the photo in question was taken in Patagonia and features a roasted goat. However, the text recipient refuted this, stating that “Kennedy emphasized that the animal in the photo was a dog, not a goat, and suggested visiting Seoul’s best dog meat restaurant. Either way, it’s a bizarre incident.”

The magazine noted that although the photo featuring candidate Kennedy was meant to provoke laughter, it instead highlighted his lack of consideration and poor judgment. It criticized him for mocking South Korean culture, harboring cruel thoughts about animals, and jeopardizing both his reputation and that of his family.

Kennedy Jr., a nephew of former President John F. Kennedy, is maintaining a support rate of around 10% in opinion polls despite the opposition of most of his family to his independent candidacy.
