Leidos Hit by Major Hack: Sensitive U.S. Government Documents Leaked

Daniel Kim Views

Defense IT service provider Leidos has been hacked.

Yesterday, a Leidos representative revealed that hackers had leaked internal documents to the U.S. government.

Leidos recently discovered the issue and is currently investigating. It believes the documents were stolen due to a breach of Diligent Corporation’s systems.

A Leidos spokesperson indicated that the issue appears to be related to a 2022 hacking incident involving their subsidiary, Steel Compliance Solutions, which they had acquired in 2021. At that time, fewer than 15 customers, including Leidos, used the product.

“We promptly notified impacted customers, including Leidos, and took immediate corrective action to contain the incident,” the spokesperson said.

According to documents submitted in June 2023 in Massachusetts, the Diligent system was used to host information collected during the internal investigation.

These documents are presumed to have been stolen during two breach incidents involving Leidos in 2022.

Since its establishment in 2013, Leidos has purchased Lockheed Martin’s information technology business.

According to Bloomberg government data, Leidos was the largest federal IT contractor, with contract obligations totaling $3.98 billion for the 2022 fiscal year.

Leidos’s clients include the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, NASA, and various commercial enterprises both in the U.S. and abroad.

On the other hand, Leidos has not clarified the exact nature of the document’s authenticity.
