Thousands of anti-government protesters continue to take to the streets in Venezuela following allegations of electoral fraud in the presidential election. Amid escalating anti-government protests over suspected election fraud, casualties have been reported. President Joe Biden has stepped in, calling for “immediate release of full, transparent, and detailed voting data at the polling station level by the Venezuelan electoral authorities.”

According to AP News, the anti-government protests in Venezuela, protesting the election results, have escalated, resulting in numerous casualties.

Human rights group Foro Penal on social media, stating, “It has been confirmed that 11 people have died in protests related to the Venezuelan presidential election, including a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old.”

Earlier on Monday, President Nicolás Maduro, who was confirmed for a third term by the Venezuelan Electoral Council, blamed the entire situation on the democratic opposition. According to AFP, Maduro warned that he would hold opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia responsible for all the issues.

The Venezuelan authorities have also declared that they consider the protests an attempt to overthrow the government and announced that they would launch operations to control the situation.

Given the circumstances, neighboring ally countries and even the United States have demanded explanations for the allegations of electoral fraud.

International leaders, including Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, have called for transparency in the vote count. At the same time, the Venezuelan authorities announced the temporary suspension of flights between Panama and the Dominican Republic.

On the same day, Biden, who spoke with President Lula on the phone, emphasized the need to clarify the allegations of electoral fraud.

The White House stated, “The two leaders shared the perspective that the Venezuelan election outcome represents a critical moment for democracy in the hemisphere, and they pledged to remain in close coordination on the issue.”

During the call, the White House added that Biden expressed his gratitude for Lula’s leadership regarding the Venezuelan issue.
