Former President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that if he wins the presidential election, he will create a Government Efficiency Commission, which Tesla CEO Elon Musk has agreed to lead.
Speaking at the Economic Club in New York, Trump stated, “I will create a government efficiency commission tasked with conducting a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government,” adding that Musk agreed to lead the commission.
Earlier that day, Musk expressed on his X (formerly Twitter) account, “I look forward to serving America if the opportunity arises. No pay, no title, no recognition is needed.”
Trump revealed that he had been discussing the formation of the government efficiency commission in response to Musk’s proposal, confirming plans for its establishment and leadership role.
The government efficiency commission is reported to be tasked with thoroughly examining federal agencies’ financial records to reduce spending on wasteful programs and eliminate unnecessary regulations.
