Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Sunday that approximately 43,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died since Russia began its invasion, according to RBC Ukraine.

In a statement posted on Telegram, Zelenskyy disclosed the losses incurred since the war with Russia began in February 2022. He stated that the Ukrainian people are sacrificing their lives to protect their homeland, emphasizing that every life, whether military or civilian, is precious. He added that since the start of the war, Ukraine has lost 43,000 warriors on the battlefield.

However, Zelenskyy highlighted that one of the main differences between the Russian army and the Ukrainian defense forces is frontline medical care, which Ukraine has significantly advanced. He mentioned that medical support has been provided for about 370,000 injury cases, with roughly 50% of injured soldiers returning to duty, including all minor and repetitive injuries. He expressed gratitude to everyone involved in developing medical services for our armed forces, saving the injured, and supporting rehabilitation.

The scale of troop losses between the two countries has shown a stark contrast. Zelenskyy emphasized, “Since September of this year, Russia has lost soldiers at a rate of 5 to 1 or 6 to 1 compared to us.”

Reports indicate that as of Sunday, Russian casualties in Ukraine have exceeded a total of 753,000. The Russian side has officially confirmed the names of only 80,973 soldiers who died on the Ukrainian front since February 2022, most of whom were volunteers.

Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, did not disclose any specific numbers but mentioned that his forces’ losses during the advance in Russia’s Kursk region were half that of Russia.

Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War pointed out that Russia continues to suffer significant casualties to gain tactical advantages in the Donetsk region, and reports suggest that the Russian army lost about 126,000 soldiers this fall alone.
