Ukrainian officials report that approximately 4,000 of the 12,000 North Korean troops deployed to Russia have been killed or wounded. On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy disclosed the extent of North Korean casualties while appealing for Western support, according to AFP and Reuters.

During the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine aims to identify every possible means of compelling Russia to peace. He added that he believes deploying allied contingents is the most effective strategy.

Zelenskyy referenced France’s proposal from last year to deploy contingents to Ukraine, emphasizing the need for more concrete efforts to realize this plan. He noted receiving positive signals from several partners, including the United Kingdom.

During the briefing, Zelenskyy revealed that, to their knowledge, there had been approximately 4,000 casualties among North Korean forces in Russia to date. He asserted that this figure demonstrates North Korea’s disregard for the lives of its citizens.

Zelenskyy vowed to exhaust every effort to conclude the conflict honorably for Ukraine and Europe. He characterized the collaboration between Russia and North Korea as evidence of Putin’s weakness.
