Tesla is recalling approximately 380,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States due to electric power steering issues, as reported by InsideEVs last week.

The company announced a recall of 376,241 EVs in the U.S. due to a malfunctioning power steering assist feature. The recall affects 2023 model year Model 3 and Model Y vehicles.

According to Tesla’s report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), operating the vehicle at low speeds may overload the power steering system’s circuit board. While steering functionality remains unaffected and a warning message is displayed, the steering assist feature may deactivate after the vehicle stops and may not reactivate even when driving resumes.

As of Last month, Tesla reported receiving 3,012 warranty claims and 570 field reports potentially related to this issue. No collisions have been reported due to this problem.

In 2023, the NHTSA initiated an investigation into steering issues affecting more than 280,000 Tesla vehicles. The agency also launched a probe into collision incidents reported while using the Autopilot feature, involving more than 2.6 million Tesla vehicles.

Tesla emphasized that this recall action is unrelated to NHTSA’s ongoing investigation into steering control defects, which continues to progress.
